DET Mock Test 4
The first test from our second question bank: new passages, conversations, photographs and prompts throughout. Nothing in it appears in any other test, so it measures you again rather than what you remember.
- About an hour, eight sections, run in the real order
- All 13 question types — nothing here appears in the other five tests
- Eight subscores and per-answer feedback the moment you finish
Mock Test 4 is a full sitting, not a sample. It opens with a short start screen — no camera, no permission prompts — then runs the eight sections in the order Duolingo runs them and ends with a scored report. Budget an uninterrupted hour, and have a microphone ready for the speaking section, where your browser asks for it.
Free for a limited time. No card, and no account needed to take it or to see your score.
What Mock Test 4 is built from
Eight sections, in the order you will meet them on the day. Everything in the right-hand column belongs to Mock Test 4 alone — none of it appears in the other five tests — and where a section draws from a pool, the engine picks what suits the level you are working at, so two people taking this test will not meet exactly the same items, or even the same number of them.
| Section | Task types | In Mock Test 4 |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Read & Select | Read & Select | 15–18 of its 67 real and invented words, 5 seconds each |
| 2 · Fill in the Blanks | Fill in the Blanks | 6–9 of its 21 sentences |
| 3 · Mixed Language Skills | Listen & Type, Read & Complete | 9–15 items in 24 minutes, from its 19 passages and 29 audio clips |
| 4 · Interactive Reading | Interactive Reading | Two of: Conversation evenings at a café; The rise of escape rooms; A town that turned down its lights; Why we remember the first and last — five steps each |
| 5 · Interactive Listening | Interactive Listening | Two of these conversations: You go to a dry cleaner’s to collect a suit you need for a job interview. You go to the campus print shop to get your project report printed and bound. You visit your department office to ask about changing one of your optional modules. You speak to a hotel receptionist about a problem with your room during a work trip. You phone a community hall to book a room for a colleague’s leaving party. Your manager gives you feedback on a report you have written for a client. |
| 6 · Writing | Write About the Photo, Writing Sample | Four written responses, two of them about photographs from this test’s three: A smiling woman; A large, quiet railway station; Five farm workers in warm clothes and head scarves working in a field of bright green rice seedlings on a foggy morning; two crouch holding bundles of seedlings |
| 7 · Speaking | Speak About the Photo, Interactive Speaking | The remaining photograph, described aloud, then a spoken conversation |
| 8 · Writing & Speaking Sample | Writing Sample, Speaking Sample | 8 minutes on open prompts |
When to take Mock Test 4
Take it once Tests 1–3 are done or whenever you want a fresh measurement after a block of practice. It comes from the second question bank, so even someone who has sat the first three tests meets every question here for the first time.
That order is a suggestion, not a requirement: the six tests are equated — a score means the same on each — so any of them can come first. What matters is leaving enough work between sittings for the next score to mean something.
What to bring, and what you get
Bring an unaided hour and finish every task. You leave with a predicted overall and all eight subscores — see the sample report — and the mock tests page covers getting a number worth trusting. The official test costs $70 USD; find your weak spots before you pay for it.
