A complete sitting in the real order, all eight sections. Questions run from easy to hard across the whole range, so wherever you are now, this one finds it.

What a full mock gives you that a drill cannot
Practising one task type tells you whether you can do that task. A full mock tells you something different and harder to get at: whether you can do all eleven, in sequence, under timers, for an hour, without your accuracy falling apart in the last fifteen minutes.
That stamina is a real component of your score and it is invisible to drills. It is also the reason a paused practice test is worth much less than a completed one.
The other thing you only get from a full test is the interaction between skills. The adaptive engine builds one estimate from everything you do, and a weak stretch early steers the difficulty of what comes later.
What the official test looks like
Our mocks reproduce the scored portion of the real exam. It helps to know how that fits into the full hour, because two of the three official stages are not about your English at all.

How the official test is supervised
The DET is taken at home, which means the supervision happens through your camera, microphone and machine rather than through a person in the room. Duolingo publishes what that involves, and it is worth reading before test day rather than after.

The adaptive engine draws from a bank large enough that a test taker would need over 1,000 attempts to see a repeated question.

None of this applies to our practice tests, which are not proctored and produce no official result. We mention it because the constraints shape how you should practise: if the real thing is one uninterrupted hour in a quiet room with nothing else open, that is what at least some of your mocks should be too.
What you get when you finish
Every mock returns the same eight numbers the official score report carries — Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, plus the four integrated subscores built from them — along with an overall score on the 10 to 160, in increments of 5 scale and the CEFR level it corresponds to.
Duolingo confirms the arithmetic we use: the individual subscores average to the overall score, and each integrated subscore is the average of two individual ones. The full explanation is here.

What these scores are and are not
DET Mock Tests is an independent practice platform with no affiliation to Duolingo, Inc. Scores produced here are not official Duolingo English Test results and carry no standing with any institution.
Take any of them untimed
Every test above can be run without the timer. Nothing else changes — the same questions, the same adaptive engine, the same eight-subscore report at the end — you simply get as long as you want on each screen.
It is the right mode the first time you meet the format, when the aim is to understand what each task is asking rather than to find out whether you can do it in fifty seconds. Once the format is familiar, switch back: the clock is a real part of what the DET measures, and a score earned without it will read higher than the one you would get on the day.
Questions about the mock tests
What do I get when a mock test finishes?
An estimated overall score, a subscore for each of the four skills, and a breakdown of the items you got wrong. The score is the least useful part of that — the error breakdown is what tells you which skill to work on, which is the reason to take one at all.
Does the mock test record me on camera?
No. The only hardware it uses is a microphone, and only for the speaking tasks — there is no camera, no screen recording and no ID check. The official test does all three under remote invigilation; our mocks reproduce the questions, not the proctoring.
Are the writing and speaking samples graded in a mock test?
Yes — our engine grades every writing and speaking response, which is how you get a subscore for each. On the official test the two end-of-test samples are sent to institutions unscored, so a mock actually gives you feedback on writing and speaking you would otherwise never see marked.
Are these mock tests really free?
All three full-length mocks are free for a limited time, with no card required. We would rather have people using the thing and telling us where it is wrong than have a paywall in front of an engine we are still calibrating.
How long does a full mock test take?
About an hour, matching the real test. Duolingo publishes the official breakdown as 5 minutes of setup and ID verification, 45 minutes of scored assessment, and 10 minutes for the writing and speaking samples. Our mocks reproduce the scored portion and the samples — we do not simulate ID verification.
Will I see the same questions if I take more than one?
No. Sign in and the engine records every item you have been served, then avoids repeating them in later sittings. Without an account it cannot know what you have seen, so a second attempt in the same browser may overlap.
Do I need a microphone?
For the speaking tasks, yes. The test runs a microphone check before the first speaking item so you find out then rather than halfway through a recording. Reading, writing and listening tasks work without one.
Is my practice score the same as an official score?
No, and nobody can honestly claim otherwise. Ours is an estimate from our own engine, calibrated against Duolingo's published CEFR alignment. It is useful for tracking progress and finding weak skills; it is not a prediction of what you would score officially, and it carries no standing with any institution.
Can I pause a mock test?
You can, but for a diagnostic result you should not. Half of what a full mock measures is whether you can sustain an hour of concentration under timers. A paused test tells you about your English and nothing about your performance.
Do I need to create an account to take a mock test?
No. You can take any of the three without signing in. An account exists so your history persists and so the engine can avoid repeating questions across sittings — without one it cannot know what you have already seen.
What happens if my connection drops mid-test?
Progress through the current attempt is held in your browser, so a brief drop is usually recoverable by reloading. Signed-in attempts are also written to your account as you go.
Can I take the same mock test twice?
You can, but the second run is far less informative — you will remember items, and the adaptive engine will be estimating from answers you have effectively already seen. With three separate tests available there is little reason to repeat one.
How long should I wait between mock tests?
Long enough to have reviewed the last one and worked on what it found. A mock measures; the work between mocks is what changes the number. Taking them back to back mostly measures the same thing twice.
Are the mock tests as hard as the real test?
They are built to the same published format and anchored to the same CEFR alignment, and the difficulty adapts the same way. But our item bank is our own, so treat a practice score as a good guide to your weak skills and a rough guide to your level — not a prediction.
Will the mock tests stay free?
All three are free for a limited time with no card required. If that changes we will say so on the pricing page rather than quietly gating tests people have started using.
